Asthma & Dust Allergies and Mattress Cleaning

There’s nothing worse than trying to sleep while your dust mites without mattress cleaningeyes are burning and itchy, your skin is crawling and you’re wheezing and gasping for air.

Even with the occasional mattress cleaning, body oils, sweat,
dust mites and dust mite faeces are found in all mattresses.

When the level of these biological materials build up to a certain level within the mattress it can cause discomfort for those with sensitive breathing issues.

Asthmatic or suffer from dust allergies?

Asthma and other allergies can be inflamed by the presence of dust mites with a mattress. Dust mites feed on organic material such as skin flakes and oils that build up in the mattress over time. These organic materials are digested by the dust mites using digestive enzymes that remain in the feaces after being passed by the dust mite. These enzymes can play a major role in cause allergic reactions such as wheezing, eczema inflammation, and aggravation of pre-existing conditions such as asthma.

Dust mite can live in all climates, and can even be found at high altitude. Dust mites flourish in the presence of humans, specifically in bedrooms and kitchens. Dust mites thrive in mattresses, carpets, furniture and bedding. On average there are around 100 to 500 mites per gram of dust. Even in dry climates, house dust mites survive and reproduce easily in bedding (especially in pillows), which takes up moisture from body contact.

House dust mites consume minute particles of organic matter. House dust mites have a simple gut; they have no stomach but rather diverticulae, which are sacs or pouches that divert out of hollow organs. Like many decomposer animals, they select food that has been already partially decomposed by fungi.

How can mattress cleaning help?

All mattresses harbour bed bugs, dust mites, bacteria and fungi and really should be cleaned around every 6-12 months. You only have to take the sheet off most mattresses to see sweat and other related stains and like any liquid in a material environment it will develop bacteria and fungi.

Regular mattress cleaning removes these mattress deposits and leaves you with a much cleaner and healthier sleeping environment. While dust mites can never be permanently eradicated regular mattress cleaning can reduce the number of mites to a level that cause fewer allergic reactions, and in some cases put an end to reactions entirely.

We know what causes dampness, what needs cleaning and how regularly so can advise on the best best way for you to have the most comfortable sleeping environment.
